This week, I'm talking about what to do when you find yourself either wanting something to change, recognizing that something's not working, or recognizing that you don't know where to go next. Picking up a thread from my conversation last week with Rob Bell (and his new book Everything is Spiritual), I want to examine the question/prayer/mantra "Now what?" and show how we can work with it to get the clarity we're after. If you're not sure what’s next or still figuring out the next steps in the life that you want, this episode is for you! I share what it means to keep going, how to find clarity, why anger is okay, and what embracing curiosity and grace can bring to your life. What I said: "The reason that I have 336 episodes is I kept going." "Prayer is a powerful tool." "What we need to be aware of is what’s on the other side of anger." "The knowing will lead you to curiosity, and curiosity will lead you to clarity." Those Timestamps 00:35 - What it means to actually "keep going" Show Notes: Applications are open for the Inner Circle until 11:59 PST on Thursday, October 1! In his new book, Everything is Spiritual: Who We Are and What We're Doing Here, New York Times bestselling author Rob Bell explores the endless dynamic questions and connections that have shaped his life, providing powerful insight into understanding one's purpose and place in the world. And I am thrilled to be in conversation with him this week. Listen in to hear me and Rob talk about his 11th book (!!), the nature of life, why "looking for" spirit is playing the wrong game, why hope needs to be apocalyptic, the problem with all those ladders we've gotten really good at climbing, and what's important to know about boredom and death. Rob Bell has been one of my greatest teachers and I'm so excited to introduce him to you! PS. Applications for the RYHSY Inner Circle close on Friday 9/25! Get all the details here! What He Said: "The elimination of obstacles, barriers, and discomfort is a recipe for boredom." "Spirit is often lurking in whatever you most dislike." "I want people to experience the wonder and awe of their own existence." "Having your palms up to let go is the only way you can receive anything." This week, I'm in conversation with creative coach, explorer, educator, designer, and Inner Circler Anne Ditmeyer. Listen in to hear us talk about being uncool, giving yourself permission to be ridiculous, why getting lost is a good thing, what happens when you keep saying yes to opportunity, why you're allowed to seek out joy even during a pandemic, and the power of using creativity to solve problems. We also talk about her experience in the Inner Circle (applications are now open!), so if you're curious about what's available there, have a listen! What She Said: "I want to be as uncool as possible." “Nobody acknowledges how much time content takes to create”. "What are those stories that aren't told?" "Make it human." “The value comes from people who are not like us.” “Get lost on purpose; there are multiple ways to reach a destination.” "Drawing on a banana is the new standard." "Be ridiculous." I am so excited to be talking with one of my current Inner Circlers Gillian Freeman, of Pen & Thimble, this week! Gillian creates handmade, eco-friendly products for her business and is a busy mom of 2. In this episode, we talk about her experience in the Inner Circle, what brought her to the work, what she learned about pausing and taking breaks, and why she didn't really believe that what's happened for her was possible (but it was!). We also talk about how things changed for her along the way, why she's taken up a new hobby, and where she's looking next. Applications open Monday 9/14 for the next round of the Raise Your Hand Say Yes Inner Circle (we start October 1!) and if you're wondering if it's a good fit for you, Gillian's story will be helpful so you can see what's available! What She Said: "Success that's built on a foundation of burnout is not success." "It's not just about the business but who you are as a person - what you believe and what you want." "You don't have to put all of your ambition on hold in order to feel good in your life." "Whatever you need to do, start now... It's a journey." Yes. Raising your hand and saying yes to what you want for your life is going to require time and energy. And you might have precious little of it (hey! There's a free challenge for that!). But this week, I'm talking through all the things that not following through on what we want for our lives is costing us. And what I know is that it's time for us to shift our standards of what's acceptable. To stop letting doubt make our decisions. To take a stand for what we want even when circumstances are less than ideal. Overcoming inertia will always be a challenge. It will only get harder the longer you wait. And those things keeping you up at night? They aren't going anywhere. So what would happen if you started investing in yourself. (Yes. Even right now.) In this episode, you'll hear me talk about helping you set a foundation of being yourself in your life. Showing up to everything as the single version of you. Living on the outside as who you know you're ready to be on the inside. It's bold and brave and beautiful. Let's go. What I Said: "Your pre-COVID life was too much. No wonder you don't know where to put yourself right now." "Continuous improvement is not your life's purpose." "Staying where you know you don't want to be is never going to help get you what you want." "I'm asking you to step into simultaneously easing up on yourself and holding the entire world to a higher standard of what's okay and acceptable." "Long-term stress is killing us." "Extreme dissatisfaction can be an impetus for change." "The resistance keeping you still is only going to get louder the longer you wait."
