The Tiffany Han Show (formerly Raise Your Hand Say Yes)

How often have you ignored your intuition only to find yourself following through on it months (or years!) later? This is the question I'm exploring this week as I share my guiding phrase for 2018: divine obedience.

You'll learn how I came up with this phrase, what I've already learned about it, and how I'm planning to apply it to my 2018. You'll also hear how it stems directly from my search for flow.

Let's do this 2018!

Oh, yes. Let's talk about flow. More specifically, let's revisit my word for 2017 and see how I fared in my quest to find flow.

Here's what I know - since January 1, I have produced the following creative content for my business:

  • 275 email campaigns
  • 208 Instagram posts
  • 69 podcast episodes
  • 10 live webinars
  • 6 live speaking and teaching stints

And here's what else I know - there is no way I could have created that much content without having flow in my life.

So what led me to my need for flow and how can you get started in finding yours? Have a listen - you'll hear about my I-almost-missed-seeing-Hamilton wake-up call and the four components that are critical to help you find your flow.

Maybe 2018 is your year to flow? Like whoa? (Yeeeeees.)

How do you keep going when the going gets tough? What do you do when the worst-case scenario happens? How do you find your endurance and your devotion when challenges show up?

This week, I'm talking with writer Alexandra Franzen all about her new book You're Going to Survive as well as her own experiences with facing those seemingly-unsurvivable challenges.

You'll hear her favorite stories from the book, her thoughts on those horrible emails we all dread, and what she did after a bad yelp review sent her into a tailspin!

We all experience doubt in our creative work - this episode might be just what you need to reconnect to your grit!

Ah, social media! It's where we all love to connect and get inspired and show our work and the thing that's usually the cause of our comparison syndrome, overwhelm, and lack of fresh ideas.

So how do you deal? This week, I'm talking with Instagram expert and social media strategist Jaimie Myers about just that.

We cover what you want to pay attention to instead of the numbers, how to build relationships, and how to move beyond the picture perfect feeds you see everywhere.

We also talk about the strategies you might want to stay away from (and I share my own story of a day when I tried something that turned out to be super high on the ick factor) and how to get started if you're new at social media and/or overwhelmed by it all.

Oh! And you'll also hear Jaimie's top Instagram do's and don'ts - they're so good!

So many of us are striving for something bigger in our lives and creative work. We want to find success doing something that makes us come alive *and* that serves the world. (No pressure, right?)

And, it's so easy to fall prey to watching what everyone else is doing and wanting a piece of their picture instead of focusing on our own. (You aren't alone. We all do it.)

This week, I'm talking about how I think so many of us are focusing on the wrong thing in our creative longings and where you can look instead. My way feels a lot more fun and easy, so what's there to lose?

Oh! And the doubt. I'll also share my new favorite way for dealing with those inevitable doubts that show up in every moment!

I'm talking with Laura McKowen about finding your Bigger Yes for this week's episode of Raise Your Hand Say Yes. Because if you're going to raise your hand and say yes to something, you want to make sure it's what you really want, right? Right.

We also talk about what to do if you aren't sure what your bigger yes is, what we can all learn from those pesky truths that won't leave us alone, and how to know if you should power through on something that isn't quite working or when it's time to quit!

This episode was full of SO MANY gems (get the cliff notes and my top 5 highlights below) and might be just what you need to let go of those things that only look good on paper and move into what looks good in your heart.

I was thrilled to get to interview Liz Bohannon, founder and CEO of Sseko Designs, for this week's episode of Raise Your Hand Say Yes. We talked about how she went from "an idea" of what her calling was to building the company she has now.

We also talked about how she felt quitting her "looks good on paper" job to move to Uganda without a plan, what happened when she realized that she was building a business around things she *thought* she hated, and how many times she's been told no.

This episode was full of SO MANY gems (get the cliff notes and my top 5 highlights below) and might be just what you need to get your butt in gear towards making something big happen for this world.

This week, I'm talking with Tonya Dalton, founder of Inkwell Press and the voice of the Productivity Paradox podcast about some of the biggest productivity myths out there and what you can focus on instead.

We also cover the basics of how to get yourself out of overwhelm, how to gracefully let go of things, and what you can do instead of striving for work/life balance (cuuuuuz we all know that the never-ending quest for balance isn't doing us any good!).

This week's solo show is all about what you can do when the worst-case scenario happens. I'm telling you a story that I haven't talked about publicly yet about a time, early in my career, when I asked someone for more money for some work I was doing and was promptly put in my place and told why I was completely wrong for asking for what I needed. Yeah. It was like that.

And while the experience itself sucked, I learned a TON which I'm sharing with you today! You'll also hear some reflections of my latest meditation retreat experience as well as the giant lightbulb moment I had recently about how I've been washing my face ALL WRONG. For my entire life! Bah!!

Would it be crazy or the best to base an entire year of business decisions on what Bono would do? Answer: the best. I am a huge fan of Lisa Anderson Shaffer and Zelma Rose and when she told me that she decided back in January to use Bono as a guide for all of her creative and business decisions, I knew I had to have her on the show.

In this week's episode, you'll find out why she chose Bono, what she learned from him, and how it's made a difference in her creative work and life. You'll also hear us talk about how this fits into the Raise Your Hand Say Yes way of life in such a perfect way. Get excited, because this is a good one!

Ooh, I loved getting to talk with Anna Guest-Jelley, founder of Curvy Yoga, for this week. We talked about so much good stuff: embodiment, spirituality, business evolution, creative instincts, body acceptance, permission. All of it around how to move forward when you know there's something more for you.

And while it's easy to only think about evolution when you hit a place of burnout, it's actually critical to realize that - in creativity - we're all evolving all the time. So, yay! Evolution is exciting! Oh, and it happens whether we realize it or not, so let's all get in the driver's seat, eh?

Ah! Season 4 is here! I'm thrilled to be kicking us off with an interview with Laurie Wagner, an author and artist who also happens to be my writing teacher! Through her amazing Wild Writing method, Laurie helps writers tap into their truth and get to the heart of what they really want to say in this world. (Which is pretty much step one of living your Raise Your Hand Say Yes life!)

In this conversation, Laurie and I talk about telling the truth and what it has to do with leadership. You'll also hear her thoughts on getting vulnerable as an expert and teacher and why it's so critical. Oh, and we also dive into a discussion about drinking (and not drinking) and Jesus - and how interesting it is that both topics feel so controversial.

Okay, you know there are things you want to do with your creative work. But you also know that there are about a million different things vying for your attention? How do you make space to welcome in the things you really want?

This week, I'm talking about how to get started in making space for your big dreams as well as what I learned about business after I had my twins three years ago (which was right around the time that things started taking off for me...coincidence? I think not!). The key: focus on the big stuff. Let the rest fall away.

I also tie this into what I learned by my 100 Days of Going Light experiment about only doing the things that lit me up and focusing on that for 100 days. A lot changed. And change takes time. Patience helps a ton. Keep going.

Ooh let's talk about stories - namely: the stories that we decide are true that hold us back. Examples include: Tiffany talks too much or Tiffany isn't a good speaker. (Ahem, right.)

The problem with these stories that are often hold-overs from our youth is that we let them hold us back. We decide to use them as evidence against going after the things we want for our lives. They're conveniently placed right between us and our dreams.

And I say no more! This week, we dig into how those stories hold us back (and you'll hear a few of mine as examples) and what we need to do to move past them. You'll also hear WHY this is so important and what's possible for us if and when we decide to put ourselves back into the driver's seat!

What do you do when you have NO IDEA what you want to do? And even worse, how do you navigate a change when you feel like you might be eternally stuck in a sucky situation (whether it's a job or relationship or habit)?

This week's solo episode was prompted by an Instagram question asking me how to navigate utter stuckness, and my answers apply whether you're in a toxic situation or just want to make a change in your life but aren't *exactly* sure what that change should be.

This week's guest is April Miller McMurtry of The Moon is My Calendar. I've known April for a few years and was so excited to get to talk with her about her work around using the cycles of the moon to aid in creative work (and, let's be honest: life).

April has a keen understanding of how the waxes and wanes of the moon can reflect the ebbs and flows of our energy on a day-to-day basis and takes the perspective that there is no one-size-fits-all formula for creative success (bingo!).

If you've ever wondered about the moon and what it all means to your life, listen in. Even if you're skeptical (I was too!), this episode will help you walk away with more grace for yourself and your natural habits and some techniques to help you move forward in embracing them as you keep on raising your hand and saying yes!

I was thrilled to get to talk with Sasha Tozzi for this week's episode! We talk about recovery and anxiety - two topics I'm becoming more and more interested in.

We also talk about how you can get over your fear of what other people are going to think about choices you make, how it feels to go public with a big life change, and how you can start building up your creative confidence and resilience.

If you have life changes that you want to make that feel scary, this episode is for you! Enjoy!

This week's guest is filmmaker and feminist blogger Erin Bagwell. We talked about Erin's film Dream, Girl and everything she learned about making it, promoting it, and funding it (with a $100K Kickstarter campaign! #nottooshabby).

You'll get to go behind the scenes as we talk about Erin's process, what led her to filmmaking, everything she learned along the way, and what she's up to now. Oh! And you know I asked her what it was like to meet Oprah!

If you're dreaming of doing something big with your creative work or wondering how to make your vision a reality (or translate it into a business!), this episode is for you!

This month's solo show is also the second installment of the My Raise Your Hand Say Yes Life series I introduced last month. This week, I'm diving into the why behind choosing the word flow for my guiding word of 2017 and the reason why I've committed to 100 days of going light as a public project.

You'll also hear about how my not drinking commitment is going and the daily practices I'm starting to implement to help me stay in my flow.

Exciting episode alert! I'm talking with RYHSY veteran Erin Cassidy all about taking risks...as we go behind the scenes of the debut of our new podcast How to be Remarkable

In this episode, we dive deep into talk of creative risk, especially when it goes against the way you'd normally do things. Are you dreaming of starting a podcast but don't know how to balance that with your introverted tendencies? Listen in - cuz Erin has some great thoughts on that!

I was also excited to have this conversation right at the beginning of our new endeavor as it's easy to forget about the nervous + excited feeling of projects once you've gotten distance between yourself and the starting line.

Enjoy, enjoy and we'd love for you to also check out the new podcast - either online or on iTunes

This week's episode is a deep dive into the reality of business change, following your dreams, and doing big scary things with Jessie Artigue of Style and Pepper as she's in the midst of launching her new clothing line Season on Kickstarter

Before we started recording, Jessie told me that she wanted to get into the dirt of change and creative risk and so we went there! We talk about knowing you need to make a change - even when everything looks really good on paper, how to deal with anxiety, the problem with hustle, and what it's really like to run a very public kickstarter for something you've gone all in on (hello vulnerability!).

This episode is longer than usual, but it's because there was so much good stuff to discuss! Grab a cup of tea and get comfortable!

This week I got to have a wonderfully refreshing and honest conversation with writer and editor Bridget Watson Payne about her new books The Secret Art of Being a Grown-Up and How Art Can Make you Happy

We talked about the best and hardest parts of being a grown-up, the intersections of creativity and enthusiasm and what to do with that pesky inner-critic of yours. We also dove into the creative process, political differences, and how to deal with rejection - especially if you have dreams of being published!

I think you'll love this episode as much as I do! Enjoy!

This week, we're diving into the archives to bring you a conversation with Alison Faulkner of The Alison Show - a listener favorite blast from the past - with a new reason to celebrate!

We talk about enthusiasm (and what to do when you aren't feeling it!), letting go of what other people might think, building a compelling brand, and how NOT to have a nervous breakdown. Alison has such a fresh perspective about all of this, and I suspect you'll be smitten with her 5 minutes in.

I was so excited to talk with designer, metalworker, and entrepreneur Zai Divecha for this week's episode! You'll hear the story of how Zai went from Yale grad (undergrad and grad) to a career in tech to where she is now, specializing in TIG welding and producing gorgeous fine art wall hangings.

You'll also hear us talk about the steps Zai took as she was deciding to leave tech and become a full-time artist, and what helped her in her first year of the transition. Finally, you'll get the scoop on what kinds of support networks carry her through and some of the digital ways she keeps her fine art business organized!

If you've considered walking away from a looks good on paper career or degree to raise your hand and say yes to something creative, this episode is for you! Oh, and if you're looking for a dose of empowerment, you'll get that too! You guys - welding is so badass!

I'm excited to unveil a new feature called My RYHSY Life. In these monthly-ish episodes, I'll be going behind the scenes of my own life and business to tell the in-real-time story of what I'm currently raising my hand and saying yes to.

I'm kicking the series off with the story of how and why I decided to give up drinking a couple of months ago, in what is becoming a permanent change in my life. I'll be sharing what led me to make the decision to dive into the dry life, what I kept telling myself about why I couldn't do so sooner, and what I've learned about myself, my relationship with alcohol, and my life since.

You'll also learn about the conversation I was afraid to have with my husband after I quit and the times I've been triggered to drink since. And not sure how my giving up drinking pertains to you and your creative quests? I'll fill you in on that too!

This week, I'm talking with physician-turned-spiritual-medicine-woman Vickie Lampkin about spiritual health, self-love and the question we all want answered: is it possible to be sane, healthy, and successful at the same time?

I am such a fan of Vickie and her work and I loved her take on self-care (you may be surprised!) and what she sees as the biggest roadblocks we creatives face as we try to make creative magic happen.

If you're looking to make a change in your life or are in the middle of one, this episode is for you! Likewise, if you're tired, burnt-out, or overrun by your ambition, you'll learn so much from this conversation.

This week, I got to talk with health coach Maya Henry about choices and mindsets and priorities. The conversation that I thought would be about practical and proactive tips on how we can break overwhelm and get healthy quickly became a conversation about how wellness and creativity are intrinsically linked - and how focusing on you health will actually make you more creatively alive.

I love Maya's no-bs and down-to-earth take on getting healthy (yes! you can still eat ice cream! no! you don't have to love kale!) and think this conversation is one that anyone who feels overwhelmed by life but is still seeking a change would benefit from.

We cover goal setting, intention setting, mindset shifts, and what happens when you *don't* make yourself a priority. You'll also hear over and over again how healthy and creativity are inter-related as well as my aha moment when Maya nails the perfect Raise Your Hand Say Yes venn diagram!

Bonus: Maya is offering all RYHSY listeners her free Happiness Meal Plan guide - it's so good, y'all. Grab your copy here!

Nikki Cade is a mixed-media artist and the founder of the Creative Brunch Series. I'm such a fan of her work and was so excited to get a chance to interview her this week.

Nikki is fairly new to the professional artist world, and it was great to get her perspective on how to grow a business and a following in this current digital age. She also busted some of every creative's favorite excuses, including not having enough time, not having enough space, not being able to find your voice, and not having a big enough following - showing that building your creative business takes dedication, grit, and generosity.

There's so much to learn from Nikki - I think you'll love our conversation!

In this episode we talk about letting go of the quest for balance, how Erin learned to find her own path instead of doing what was expected of her, the art of getting vulnerable, and how to separate your worth from your accomplishments (!!).
